The revolution began in the late ‘80’s when it was realised that the act of cooking was a social event. No longer was the chef to be locked away in a small room only to emerge at the commencement of dinner with their offerings.
The kitchen became the centre of the social life of the house with provision for catering and entertaining within the one space. Designers such as Lorenzo Lispi gave us the Island/peninsula cooker hood which enabled a range to be moved from an outside wall to a central position revolutionising the art of kitchen design. European influences began to see the changing of the traditional British double oven until today we recognise the linear cooking zone comprising of an oven, microwave and steamer, all only 450mm deep and in a horizontal line.
We at Andre Le Gros are proud to be involved with Keller of Holland. They have created a selection of superb kitchen cabinets which are truly inspirational. They vary from the stunningly modern handle-less high gloss to the more traditional painted shaker. Without doubt Keller are "European", slightly softer in design than the extreme modernity of the Germans but subtly more angular than French or Spanish manufacturers. We feel that Keller designs compliment our traditional English ideas and allow Andre Le Gros designers to provide the balance our customers are looking for.
As important to the overall design of the kitchen is the choice of worktop. Natural stone, glass, quartz, Corian, solid wood or laminates, the choice is yours. Natural stone has depth and colour whereas Corian, (a blend of natural minerals, pigments and acrylic polymers) needs no joints and can be sculpted or moulded and is fully repairable should damage occur.
